The purpose of the Dellavalle Scholarship is to encourage high school students to pursue careers in soil science. A $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a California high school senior who plans to pursue a degree in a soil-science related field. In addition the scholarship recipeint will recieve their first year of membership to ASA, CSSA, SSSA as an undergraduate for free. Selection will be based on leadership qualities and future plans for a soil science related career. Learn more in our informational flyer. The successful recipient will also have the option to be considered for an internship or part-time employment with Dellavalle Laboratory while an undergraduate. The scholarship is supported by the Nat and Ann Dellavalle Scholarship Fund through the Agronomic Science Foundation and administered by the Soil Science Society of America.

Nominee

  1. Open to any student currently residing in California and enrolled as a senior at a California high school, with preference given to students attending school in the service area of Dellavalle Laboratory (San Joaquin Valley).
  2. The nominee will have earned a 3.5 or above cumulative Grade Point Average at the time the application is submitted.
  3. Applicants shall be accepted into an undergraduate degree program in a soil science curriculum at an accredited university located in the United States.
  4. This scholarship only allows self-nominations.

  4. Resume (1 page PDF)
    Upload: 1 page resume that includes your GPA, activities, accomplishments, and leadership roles within your school and community.
  5. Personal Statement on Future Career Goals in Soil Science (1 page PDF)
    Upload: 1 page personal statement that includes your college plans for a degree in a soil science related field, with at least one paragraph focusing on post-graduate career goals in a soil science related field.
  6. Reference Letter (PDF - 2 page maximum)
    Upload: one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, preferably in Agriculture, or Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
