The Soil Physics and Hydrology Early Career Award (ECA) recognizes early career scientists, who have made an outstanding contribution to Soil Physics and Hydrology. Nominees must be within 6 years of completing their Ph.D. degree within the award year (i.e., graduation date after 1 January 2018). A one-year eligibility extension will be granted for major career interruptions, including childbirth, adoption, or other major life circumstances that result in a prolonged leave of job duties. Self-nominations are required for this award.

- Completion of Ph.D. degree in Soil Physics or closely related program within six years of the award year.
- Current member of the Soil Science Society of America.
- Evidence of quality teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels if in a teaching position.
- Evidence of effectiveness in extension and/or outreach activities.
- Evidence of significant contribution of original basic and/or applied research in soil physics.
- Contributions to the public, professional organizations, and institutions.
