This award is presented in recognition of distinctive service towards understanding and promotion of seed science and technology. Contributions may include outstanding research, teaching, extension, leadership, or a combination of these activities. Activities acknowledged by this award must focus on the state of the plant's life cycle when it is a seed, from embryo development through germination, and can include processing and production methods that enhance seed quality. Nominees for this award are not restricted to CSSA members. The award consists of a certificate, a complimentary ticket to the award presentation, and $2,000.
Evaluation:
- Significance and originality of basic and/or applied research contributions leading to greater understanding of seed development, morphology, physiology, processing, dormancy, storage, germination and production methods for enhancing seed quality.
- Outstanding contributions in extension and/or service activities culminating in the promotion and increased usage of quality seeds.
- Educational activities, which have resulted in the training of leading seed scientists and professionals in the seed industry as well as development of unique courses emphasizing the importance of quality seeds.
- International contributions to the development of improved methods for maintaining, producing, and enhancing utilization of quality seeds on a global scale.
- Significant professional interactions with other seed related organizations.
- Total impact of contribution in crop science and related fields.
- The committee need not recommend an award recipient if no nominees meet the award criteria.
