Wisconsin Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin Receives Sustainability in Crop Science Award
WASHINGTON, DC, MARCH 10, 2010 -- Recognizing her strong support for agriculture, farming and the conservation of Wisconsin and the nation’s lands, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI-2nd), received the 2010 Sustainability in Crop Science Award presented by the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) on March 10.
Congresswoman Baldwin has always been a champion for Wisconsin agriculture. She played an active role in the development of the 2008 Farm Bill, and she’s also been instrumental in bringing money back to the district for agricultural research.
Baldwin has been responsible for promoting and protecting federal agriculture research. She serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and its Subcommittees on Health and its Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.
“It is a great honor to present the Crop Science Society of America’s 2010 Sustainability in Crop Science Award to Representative Tammy Baldwin,” said CSSA President Joe Lauer of the University of Wisconsin, “Congresswoman Baldwin knows the importance of sustainability to ensure the long-term productivity of our agricultural lands.”
Lauer presented the award to Baldwin in her office at the U.S. Capitol and was joined by member of the board of directors of the Crop Science Society of America, a scientific society based in Madison, Wis. This is the first year of the Sustainability in Crop Science Award and Congresswoman Baldwin is the inaugural recipient.
“The Crop Science Society provides an important forum for the exchange of knowledge and ideas among scientists studying crops worldwide,” said Congressman Baldwin upon receiving the award. “I support agricultural policies that guarantee a safe, healthy, and adequate food supply for all Americans. Our farmers are the most efficient in the world, and the quality of their efforts is second to none. Research and scientific advancement allows today’s farmers to be more productive, while protecting the environment. I look forward to our continued partnership and I am honored to accept your award.”
