Privacy Statement

The American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), also known as the Societies, have developed and are publishing the following privacy policy to demonstrate our commitment to our users’ privacy. The following describes our information gathering and dissemination practices.

This information applies to all Society websites including agronomy.org, crops.org, soils.org, and acsmeetings.org.

The Societies recognize that users may have concerns about privacy issues as they navigate the Internet. We work to provide users with a safe and secure environment. The Societies will use reasonable efforts to ensure that the information you provide remains private, and is used only for the purposes stated below. Please review the Terms of Use for the definition of the websites’ relationships to its users.

Collected Information

Users may access the public portions of the Societies websites without registering but must register in order to use any of the personalization areas, some of which are for members only. You also need to register to make a purchase or pay for a meeting registration. Our site's registration form requires specific contact information: name, e-mail address, etc. to conduct e-commerce (e.g., register for short courses and meetings, membership, make purchases from our online store). This information is used to communicate with members and purchasers/users.

Unique identifiers (such as IDs and passwords) are collected to verify the visitor’s identity and in our record system. We retain records for the time period that is applicable for informational, marketing, and business purposes. View our complete EU GDPR-Compliant Privacy Notice.

Security Capabilities and Financial Information

Financial information may be collected online when making a payment. The online forms are within an SSL secured site using https. The SSL Certificate is currently being provided by Digicert. This is intended to encrypt the information during the transaction to protect the cardholder data from access by unauthorized users.

Links to Other Sites

The Society websites may contain links to third-party websites. These links are provided solely as a convenience to users and not as an endorsement by the Societies of the contents on such third-party Websites. The Societies do not endorse or warrant any linked websites; are not responsible for the content or accuracy of materials of linked third-party sites. Links to third-party websites are performed and accessed entirely at your own risk.

Cookies

At the Societies websites, we use a feature on your Internet browser called a "cookie." A cookie is a small file that your Web browser places on your computer's hard drive to identify you as a user. Cookies are not used to collect personal information about users, nor do we sell them to other organizations.

IP Address

An IP address is used to verify access rights of licensed subscribers to ASA, CSSA, and SSSA products that require license agreements, such as the ACSESS Digital Library and journals. They also aid in the general administration of the websites.

Email

The Societies do not sell or rent email addresses to other organizations. Certain email addresses may be published in both print and electronic Society publications including the Societies websites. The Societies may generate email for the following types of communication:

  1. Notification email to which the individual may subscribe and unsubscribe.
  2. Transactional emails which are the result of a business transaction initiated with one or more of the Societies.
  3. Relationship emails which are sent as an informational service because of a relationship with one or more of the Societies.
  4. Commercial emails which are sent to promote a Society product or service (You may opt not to receive this type of email).
  5. Correspondence from Society staff as a result of a communication initiated by a member or customer.

Mailing Lists Opt-Out

Postal mailing lists, comprised of full name and postal address, may be rented to other organizations (e.g., professional societies and/or commercial publishers) for one-time promotional or informational use. You may opt out by logging into your account or contacting us at Send Message. Promotional or informational materials are subject to Society approval prior to the rental although the Societies have no responsibility or liability with respect to the content of such materials or actions of third parties. Email addresses are not included in mailing lists.

Public Forums

Forums may be hosted on the ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA websites. The inherent public nature of these forums dictates that ASA, CSSA, and SSSA assume no responsibility for protecting the information disclosed on them by users. Please exercise caution when disclosing personal information in public forums.

Updating Member Information and Opt-Out Options

ASA, CSSA, and SSSA members and contacts may opt out of all email communication. In addition, the online Member Directory is provided for informational purposes to members only, and members may opt out of being listed in the directory.

You may update your personal information online or by contacting Member Services in the following ways:

Children's Privacy

The Societies are committed to protecting children’s privacy. Our websites are not designed for or intended to attract children under the age of 13. The Societies do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information from our records.

Changes to Privacy Policy

The Societies reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy. Changes will be posted on this page, and where appropriate, notified via email. Continued use of the website signifies your acceptance of any changes to this Privacy Policy. You should review this policy periodically to stay informed about our privacy practices.
